Solo exhibition at The Substation, Melbourne 2013
HD video with 'glamour shots' of a weed-choked urban creek, accompanied by a video of slightly scrappy, home-made light-based advertisements aimed at plants and animals in that environment.
Vegetable Kingdom is an electric love song for a flawed urban paradise, a not uncritical nod to the beauty in the messed-up collaborations between people and commerce and nature. It channels the Substations electricity into an invocation for the ratty dandelions in the detritus outside to ACHIEVE, for the insects beetling away next to the train lines to FULFIL THEIR DESIRES. We've skipped the middle-men of Man and are marketing direct to the birds and the bees, the weeds and the flowers and the trees.
